Didier Quillot, the general manager of the Professional Football League, toured the radio stations this Monday morning. To speak of the Champions League, of course, and pride in having seen two French clubs reach the semi-finals. But also to evoke the Ligue 1 season in the face of the resurgence of positive cases of Covid-19 in the workforce. The first day, this weekend, was marked by the postponement of the opening match between OM and Saint-Etienne.

Many voices, among coaches and leaders, have risen to criticize the health protocol put in place by the LFP, too drastic according to them. We spoke to you at length in an article on Friday. Didier Quillot declared on RTL that he was aware that this protocol could hinder the good performance of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 championships and that the League was in the process of working on its easing.

“We have implemented a medical protocol in the clubs. […] I think it needs to be revisited, the leader said. We have started talking about it with the authorities in recent days. If there are game postponements, our schedule is in trouble. Our absolute goal is to play all 380 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 games this season. We want flexibility, something that is inspired by the UEFA protocol set up for Final 8 of the Champions League. "

# COVID19: "We wish to welcome more than 5,000 people in our stadiums, our clubs work and respect the health protocol, and therefore I ask the prefects for exemptions", @DidierQuillot in #RTLMatin with Yves Calvi (cc @RTLFoot) pic.twitter .com / zg9PrSTCJo

The European body had, for the final phase of C1, much more lax rules. It was enough that 13 players negative to the Covid-19 remain for the match to be disputed, the objective being of course to play at all costs, even if it means putting the reserve.

"A gauge of 5,000 in a stadium of 60,000 is ridiculous"

Didier Quillot also referred to the 5,000 spectator gauge in the stadiums currently in force. When the prefects do not decree an outright closed session, as was the case in Nice on Sunday. The LFP would like the prefects to obtain derogations rather in the other direction.

“We want to welcome more than 5,000 people in the stadiums. We are able to do it, he said, this time on France Info. I hope, like all of our clubs, that we can have exemptions. It's a case-by-case decision. There is no limit on the upside, I think a gauge of 5,000 in a stadium of 60,000 is ridiculous. But we have to show responsibility. It's all in that last sentence.
