The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) proposes a Second Division with 26 teams for the 2020/2012 season1 "in view of the exceptional situation we are going through due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequences that have led to the partial suspension of the Matchday 42 ".

The players' union considers that "in this way no footballer would be harmed by the decision to have a league of 22 or 24 and the safeguarding of the rights acquired contractually by our affiliates and the clubs would be guaranteed."

The AFE has sent its proposal by means of a letter sent this Thursday to all the parties involved and, it assures, has made itself available to them "to, among all, seek the most coherent and fair solution."

He acknowledges that the 2019/2020 season has been " really difficult " due to the coronavirus pandemic that has required "complex" decisions in the world of football.

"For this reason," he adds, "as a union we appeal to the unity and cooperation of all the parties involved , in order to solve this exceptional situation and thus avoid that any fellow soccer player is harmed, taking into account the effort and the great ability to adapt to the circumstances they have shown during this campaign ".

The AFE considers that " this should not pose any kind of problem at the competition or calendar level , since this has already been done in the modest football categories, in which not only have there been no decreases, but there have been increased the number of participants for the 2020/2021 season, from 80 teams to 102 ".
