In a statement, the British formation indicates that Geraint Thomas will aim for the Tour of Italy, while Chris Froome, quadruple winner of the Grande Boucle, will focus on the Tour of Spain. For the Tour de France, Ineos will therefore bet on Egan Bernal, the defending champion.

The Ineos team has retained neither the quadruple winner of the Tour de France Chris Froome nor the winner of the 2018 edition Geraint Thomas in its selection of eight riders for the Great Loop (August 29 - September 20) unveiled on Wednesday and centered on title holder Egan Bernal.

"Geraint (Thomas) will aim for the Giro (...). As far as he is concerned, Chris (Froome) will aim for the Vuelta", explained the British formation in a press release, a few days after performances by the duo far from the standards of Ineos during the Critérium du Dauphiné, the last great preparation race before the Tour.
