A new player from Montpellier has been affected by Covid-19, we learned from the Hérault club on Wednesday, after tests carried out on Tuesday. This is forward Andy Delort, who himself revealed his positive test on Twitter. The friendly meeting scheduled for Saturday against Metz in Besançon is therefore suspended from the results of new tests that the entire workforce will pass on Thursday.

I tested positive for Covid.
I'll be back asap 🙏 I'm fine.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones. #StayCare

Since the start of the pandemic, he is the seventh player from Montpellier to be infected with Covid-19. Junior midfielder Sambia, who had been hospitalized and placed in an artificial coma at the end of April, was the first Ligue 1 player to be affected by the coronavirus. Then the Cameroonian international Ambroise Oyongo, the Serbian defender Mihailo Ristic, the young Thibault Tamas, and more recently the playmaker Florent Mollet or the defender Thibaut Vargas were also affected and isolated from the group for fourteen days.

Montpellier was not to play this weekend

The Covid-19 thwarted the preparation of Montpellier, forced to cancel two of its six friendly matches, in particular the one against Marseille on August 5. Many positive cases have swarmed in Ligue 1 clubs to the point of forcing the League to postpone the match between Marseille and Saint-Etienne, which was to open the season on Friday.

Montpellier will not start the championship until August 29 in Rennes because Lyon's reception at La Mosson for the first day was postponed to September 15 due to the participation of the Lyonnais in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
