• Semifinals: PSG reaches its first Champions League final

Juan Bernat has only scored two goals during this atypical and abbreviated season. Both from inside the area, one touch, more typical of an opportunistic forward than a left back. But beyond the how, the when is striking. The first of them certified, before the pandemic but already behind closed doors, PSG's comeback against Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League, after having lost the idea in Germany 2-1.

The second of them served this Tuesday to close the win against RB Leipzig with which the Parisian team achieved the pass for the first final of the European Cup in its history. It would not happen of the anecdote if it were not because last season he scored four goals and three of them were in Champions League matches, against Naples , Liverpool and Manchester United , no less.

And in the 2016/17 campaign, still at Bayern, the same thing happened with two of the four he scored. In fact, of the 14 goals he has scored in his professional career, seven have been in the 47 Champions League games he has played out of a total of 259.

It is clear, therefore, that Bernat cultivates a special idyll with the European Cup, a title that this Sunday can add to his record if PSG manages to win the final in Lisbon. A list of titles in which all the leagues he has played since 2015 appear, the first four with Bayern and the last two with PSG. The opportunity comes to him in full football maturity, at the age of 27, and being in recent times a regular in the Spanish team despite the fierce competition in his demarcation: Jordi Alba, Gayà, Reguilón, Marcos Alonso, Yuri, Monreal ...

It wasn't always like that, of course. Trained at Valencia, he arrived at Bayern very young, backed by Pep Guardiola, who gave him prominence for two seasons. After the coach's departure to Manchester City, neither Ancelotti nor Heynckes trusted him too much and he ended up being transferred to Paris on the last day of the 2018 summer market.

A farewell ugly to the furious criticism of Bayern president Uli Hoeness : «Bernat was solely responsible for the fact that we were on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League by Sevilla. That same day it was decided that we would sell it. After that game I would have liked to know your opinion about the match shit he did.

Bernat has responded on the pitch to that departure from Hoeness - later censored by other Bayern legends, such as Rummenigge and Breitner -, offering a great performance to PSG in these last two years. He only has one game left to put on the best possible clasp. With a goal? Considering what has been seen, it seems even probable.
