- In Japan, the government attaches great importance to vaccine development and drugs against the virus due to the Olympics. They want to hold the Olympics next year and they say that the only way for that to happen is vaccines, Yoshiharu Matsuura told Sky News.

Matsuura is based in the city of millions in Osaka, where he works at a university together with an organization to develop a vaccine. Right now they are in the pre-stage.

Russia's health ministry in Moscow announced last week that it had developed the world's first vaccine against the coronavirus - and named it "Sputnik V." The World Health Organization (WHO) wants to review data from clinical trials before giving the vaccine its quality stamp.

The International Olympic Committee, IOC, has previously said that the Tokyo Olympics are not dependent on a corona vaccine.

In Japan, more than 50,000 people have been infected with the virus and the death toll is just over 1,000 people.
