Giovanni van Bronckhorst booked his first victory on Sunday after five league matches as trainer of Guangzhou R&F. His team won 0-1 when visiting Dalian Pro.
Eran Zahavi was crowned match winner. The Israeli attacker scored the only goal of the game after half an hour of play by using a penalty kick.
Van Bronckhorst was thus finally able to celebrate a success in China. He lost three times in the Super League until Sunday and played a draw once.
With the first victory, Guangzhou R&F climbed the last league table over Dalian Pro to sixth place in the rankings. The club will take on Shanghai Shenhua in-house on Wednesday.
The Chinese league is split into two groups. After the regular season, the best and worst eight teams from both groups play against each other.
Van Bronckhorst is working on his first foreign adventure as a trainer at Guangzhou R&F, after he was ultimately responsible at Feyenoord between 2015 and 2019.
