Remco Evenepoel is conscious after his hard fall on Saturday in the Tour of Lombardy. The Belgian from Deceuninck-Quick-Step crashed at a bridge and fell a few meters down. He is on his way to the hospital.
Twenty-year-old Evenepoel missed a turn in the descent and flipped over. He ducked over the railing of a bridge and hit the ground after a few meters.
The organization of the Tour of Lombardy announced twenty minutes after the fall that Evenepoel is conscious. He was taken from the ravine by medical personnel and taken to hospital.
Evenepoel was still part of the leading group at a good 40 kilometers from the finish and was one of the favorites for the win.
It is the second time this month that a Deceuninck-Quick-Step rider has crashed hard. In the Tour of Poland things went wrong for Fabio Jakobsen, who was kept in an artificial coma for several days after his fall.
