Max Verstappen has booked his first victory of the season in Formula 1 on Sunday. Partly thanks to an excellent pit stop strategy, the Red Bull driver left Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas behind at Silverstone.

Verstappen started the Grand Prix of the seventieth anniversary of Formula 1 in fourth place, but was soon able to pass Nico Hülkenberg. By saving his tires very well and waiting a long time with his first pit stop, he managed to get ahead of the Mercedes cars.

For Verstappen, it is his first victory since the Brazilian Grand Prix last year. Since then, the dominant Mercedes has won all five races, four of them this season.

In total, the 22-year-old Verstappen now has nine victories in Formula 1 to his name. The Limburger passes Bottas in the World Cup position, making him second behind Hamilton.
