Primoz Roglic won the Tour de l'Ain on Sunday. The Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma was also the strongest in the third and last stage, partly thanks to the help of Tom Dumoulin. Tour winner Egan Bernal finished second on the Grand Colombier.
Roglic also won the second stage on Saturday and Bernal also finished second. The Colombian had to clear a ten-second gap in the standings on Sunday, but Roglic was clearly better than the leader of Team INEOS.
The three-day Tour de l'Ain was the first race in which the Tour teams of Jumbo-Visma and Team INEOS competed against each other. The Dutch team was clearly stronger in the French stage race than the British formation that delivered seven of the last Tour winners.
The postponed Tour de France starts on August 29. The riders will first ride the Critérium du Dauphiné next week (Wednesday to Sunday).
