Michael van der Mark finished seventh on Sunday in the second race of the World Superbike Championship at the Jerez circuit. Just like Saturday, Brit Scott Redding crossed the line in Spain first.
Van der Mark, who had a technical problem after eight rounds at the resumption of the Superbike season, started from third place in the second race at the Jerez circuit, but was unable to maintain that podium position.
The 27-year-old Dutchman crossed the line more than thirteen seconds after winner Redding. The Ducati driver was three seconds ahead of his country and teammate Chaz Davies. The Turkish Toprak Razgatlioglu, teammate of Van der Mark at Yamaha, completed the podium.
Former MotoGP driver Redding booked his first victory at the World Superbike Championship on Saturday. He has a big lead in the rankings over reigning champion Jonathan Rea, who finished only sixth on Sunday. Van der Mark is the number six of the World Cup standings.
The World Superbike Championship started in late February with a race in Australia, after which the season had to be halted due to the corona crisis. Seven race weekends are planned for the coming months.
