  • Van der Poel one of the favorites
  • Van Vleuten wins with the women

Strade Bianche · a few seconds ago

Another 51 km  - Julian Alaphilippe is also in trouble. Last year's winner may be the fast pace of Van Aert and co. do not follow and must leave a hole.

Strade Bianche · 2 minutes ago

Still 52 km  - Acceleration in the pack! Jakob Fuglsang sets up a gear and Wout Van Aert can follow him. Mathieu van der Poel is having a hard time. He sinks further and further into the group and seems to hoist the white flag.

Strade Bianche · 3 minutes ago

Still 52 km  - On the first meters of Monte Santa Maria, there is already direct war at the front. Michael Gogl (NTT Pro Cycling) stompes on his pedals and takes the lead in the race.

Strade Bianche · 7 minutes ago

Another 54 km  - The riders can start dusting again, because they have started on the eighth gravel strip in the Strade Bianche. According to the organization, this is the toughest gravel road of the day, no less than 11.5 kilometers long. Will Mathieu van der Poel report back to the front on Monte Santa Maria?

Still 56 km  - There are still four pursuers who hunt for the wheel of front runner Simon Clarke. These are Michael Gogl, Gorka Izagirre, Jack Bauer and Marcus Burghardt. Their backlog is about 5 seconds.

Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 58 km  - Simon Clarke (EF Pro Cycling) thinks it all goes too slowly after the eating break and jumps out of the pack a few kilometers before the start of the tough eighth gravel road. Nobody wants to chase him.

Strade Bianche · 21 minutes ago

Assignment! Tiesj Benoot, the winner of 2018, gives up, his team Sunweb reports. The Belgian fell back too far after a flat tire on a gravel road and got into the car. This also applies to his teammate Søren Kragh Andersen.

Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 60 km  - Van der Poel was briefly delayed by the fall of Alaphilippe and Nibali, among others, but returns to the peloton. The eighth gravel road follows, which is no less than 11.5 kilometers long. There the first fireworks are expected in the sweltering Tuscany.

Strade Bianche · 25 minutes ago

Still 61 km Fall! Vincenzo Nibali and top favorite Julian Alaphilippe hit the asphalt. They both climb on their bikes again.

Strade Bianche · 30 minutes ago

Another 68 km  - There is the first malheur for Mathieu van der Poel. The Brabander is on the side with his bicycle, probably with a flat front tire. Fortunately for him, the real final has yet to come.

Back to the women's race. Annemiek van Vleuten completes a nice catch-up race and crosses the finish line with a clenched fist in Piazza del Campo in Siena.

Strade Biancheone hour ago

Still 73 km  - The peloton has thinned considerably after the tempo accelerations of Mathieu van der Poel and Julian Alaphilippe. Still, a few riders manage to jump out of the group. Bob Jungels (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), Marcus Burghardt (BORA-hansgrohe) and Lawson Craddock (EF Pro Cycling) connect with leader Simon Pellaud and have a lead of 35 seconds.

Van Vleuten: 'Thought I had come for nothing'
Annemiek van Vleuten never thought she could win Strade Bianche for the second year in a row. "I thought I had come for free and that my teammate (Amanda Spratt, ed.) Would win and I wouldn't be able to attack," she says of her impressive win in Siena. "But when Garcia ran away alone, I went on the offensive. The Piazza del Campo is the best place to win."

Van Vleuten strongest in Strade Bianche for the second year in a row after a beautiful solo
Annemiek van Vleuten is, just like last year, the strongest in the Strade Bianche. The Dutch overtakes the Spanish Mavi Garcia after a handsome solo and makes the difference on the last steep stretch. Leah Thomas finishes third.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Garcia rolls second over the line, while Thomas finishes third.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

    FINISH - Van Vleuten wins!

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 500 m -  Van Vleuten solos to the line. What a great number from the Dutch!

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 800 meters -  That's where Van Vleuten makes the difference! She makes her mark on the steep part in the center of Siena. Garcia is parked.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Last kilometer! Who will win the Strade Bianche?

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 1.5 km -  Van Vleuten tries to release Garcia, but the Spanish is tough. So they are still together.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 2 km -  Garcia clings to Van Vleuten.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 4 km -  Van Vleuten and Garcia are still together, Leah Thomas follows at an appropriate distance. Will there be a 'sprint-a-deux' for the victory, or will Van Vleuten Garcia drive off before then?

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 6.5 km -  Van Vleuten brought in Garcia. The Spanish does not issue yet.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 10 km -  Van Vleuten can touch Garcia. Is it going to be over and over for the Dutch?

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 11 km -  Van Vleuten has almost brought in Garcia. She can already see the Spanish in the distance.

    Strade Biancheone hour ago

Another 12 km -  Van Vleuten flies and is only half a minute behind!

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

Another 13 km -  The delay is only one minute! Annemiek van Vleuten is working on a penalty number again and seems to be catching up with Garcia quickly.

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

Another 13 km -  Van Vleuten drives at a blistering pace and quickly reduces the gap. Would it be anyway?

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

Still 14 km  - Annemiek van Vleuten now only drives in the chase. She is still two minutes behind Garcia.

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

Another 15 km -  Who do we suddenly see with the pursuers? Annemiek van Vleuten! The top favorite has clearly not yet given up and joins the group of pursuers. That group is just over two and a half minutes behind leader Mavi Garcia. Van Dijk is no longer visible.

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

The riders will start the final of this Strade Bianche. Mavi Garcia seems to be unstoppable and with 17 kilometers to go he has a lead of three and a half minutes on the pursuers (with Ellen van Dijk) and an extra minute with the peloton (Van Vleuten, Van der Breggen).

Still 118 km -  With the men Simon Pellaud is still in the lead. He is about three and a half minutes ahead of the pack with  Mathieu van der Poel .

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

The attack attempt by Van Dijk is short-lived. She is again caught by the group of pursuers, who are only half a minute ahead of the group with Van Vleuten. Mavi Garcia leads alone and has more than three minutes ahead of the pursuers. Van Vleuten is a long way behind that. A new victory for the Dutch is very far away. There are still 25 kilometers to drive.

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

Strade Bianche · 2 hours ago

The Spanish frontrunner Mavi Garcia kicks through with the women. She already has two minutes on the group with Van Dijk. The peloton with the big favorites is another one and a half minutes behind.

The Strade Bianche already delivers beautiful pictures, such as this one of the women's competition. Ellen van Dijk drives in the front in this photo. She does that on Koen de Kort's bicycle, because her own bicycle was stolen last night.
