Richel Hogenkamp has crowned himself as a Dutch tennis champion on Saturday. The 28-year-old Doetinchemse was a size too big in Amstelveen for the only seventeen-year-old Bente Spee.

The final on the clay of the National Tennis Center lasted only 55 minutes: 6-2 and 6-2. Hogenkamp is the number 213 in the world and the talented Spee, who participated on the basis of a wild card, does not yet have a WTA ranking.

Due to the absence of Kiki Bertens, Arantxa Rus, Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove (injury), Indy de Vroome and Bibiane Schoofs, Hogenkamp was placed first at the NK. She settled on the way to the final with qualifier Isabelle Haverlag, Lian Tran and Eva Vedder.

It is her fourth national title for Hogenkamp. In 2009, 2014 and 2015 she was also the best at the Dutch championships. This week's NK was organized to get the players in rhythm ahead of the resumption of the tennis season, which was halted in March due to the corona crisis.

The men's final will be between Jesper de Jong and Gijs Brouwer and is scheduled for Saturday later. De Jong was still too strong on Thursday in the quarterfinals for the first placed Robin Haase.
