Morocco's El Mahjoub Dazza, winner of the Prague and Fukuoka marathons in 2019, has been suspended for four years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), due to anomalies in his biological passport, announced the body in charge of the fight against doping on Friday.

The 29-year-old Moroccan was checked on the eve of his victory in Prague on May 9, 2019 (2h 5 min 58 sec). Seven other checks were carried out until November 4, a month before his new victory in Japan in Fukuoka on December 1 (2h 7 min 10 sec).

30 days to appeal

"It emerges from the chronology of events that the variations in the values of the PBA [biological passport] of the athlete are part of a doping scenario", concluded the disciplinary tribunal of the International Federation (World Athletics), in its verdict published Friday.

The college of experts who studied the biological passport concluded that "the probability that the anomalies described (...) are due to blood manipulation, more precisely the artificial increase in the mass of red blood cells in the spring of 2019, is very high. ".

The four-year suspension imposed on Dazza takes effect on January 10, 2020, the start of his provisional suspension announced by the IAU. He has 30 days to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
