After two separate tests, Racing Point driver Sergio Perez has now been confirmed infected with covid-19. The Mexican thus misses the British GP at Silverstone this weekend.

"Perez is physically fit and in good spirits," the team said in a statement.

"Perez has been quarantined according to instructions from relevant health authorities and will continue the procedure in accordance with these," the F1 organization wrote in a press release.

Perez is the first F1 driver to test positive for the coronavirus since the restart and the British GP will be the fourth race since the covid stop.

A Racing Point spokesman has confirmed that members of the team that have been in contact with Perez will isolate themselves and undergo retesting as a precautionary measure. Racing Point has also said that they will replace Perez and that they intend to start the GP with two drivers.
