Australian world number 1 Ashleigh Barty announced Thursday her withdrawal from the US Open due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a serious setback for the New York tournament which is due to start on August 31. "It was a difficult decision but there are still significant risks associated with Covid-19 and I do not feel comfortable placing ourselves, my team and I, in this situation," said the player in a Press release.

As for Roland-Garros (the tournament will take place from September 27 to October 11), Barty has not yet made a decision, ensuring that she would follow the evolution of the health crisis and adapt her choice in function. "I will make my decision about the French Open and European tournaments on the WTA circuit in the coming weeks," she said simply.
