Norén made no big mistakes and with birdies on the second, fifth, twelfth, fifteenth and sixteenth holes, he went the fourth and final round of 66 strokes, five under par.

The total ended up at 16 under par for Alex Norén, an end result he shared with another eight players in the PGA Tour competition in Blaine, Minnesota.

It was a stroke up to the second, the American Adam Long, and three strokes in from the victorious Michael Thompson, also from the USA.

Thompson's fourth round of 67 strokes was not one of the best during the competition, but his fine results earlier this weekend were enough to keep him at the top.

The last time Thompson won was seven years ago, and he was emotional in his victory interview:

- It's been a long time. I'm really sorry my wife and children are not here and can celebrate with me. I long for them, he said in a cracked voice.

Norlander climbed 17 places

The victory means that the 35-year-old rushes in the rankings from a 151st place to 39 and is ready for major competitions such as the PGA Championship and the US Open.

- That's what makes this game so incredible. We have to play for our jobs every year. And knowing that I have a security now for two more years and will be allowed to play in all those tournaments, he says and continues:

- It's just so wonderful.

Henrik Norlander also had a nice round of 65 strokes, and climbed 17 places and finished in 23rd place, in a total of twelve under par.
