Amanda Zahui is back in New York Liberty and in the WNBA premiere, perhaps the toughest possible opposition awaits in the form of the Seattle Storm.

Liberty has a very young team on paper and will be outscored by Seattle, which has world stars such as Breanna Stewart and Natasha Howard.

- We will really be underdogs and I look forward to slapping everyone in the mouth a little quickly. Get that New York respect back and win matches, Zahui tells SVT Sport.

Got a leadership role

Zahui has a clear idea of what she and the team want with the coming season.

- I have been given a much bigger leadership role. It's something new, so I want to build on it but still be myself all the time. Then I just want to be a stable player. I have had great matches before and then I have gone down, so my goal is to be as even as possible and lead my team to wins.

What can you expect from Liberty this year?

- We are better than we have been the last two years, so the playoffs are definitely on the map. We enter with a humble attitude because we are so young, but at the same time we are fearless.

Missing croissants

WNBA teams are isolated in a bubble due to the corona pandemic and this year's season will be played behind closed doors. Then Zahui thinks that trash talk will cost extra.

- You hear everything, really everything. So I think there will be a lot of technical fouls in the beginning. People will have to pay a little money for talking too much shit.

What do you miss most in the bubble?

- So I miss eating croissants. I was at home in Sweden for quite some time so now I miss eating croissants extra much. But I asked my mother to send some yesterday, haha.

The draft in the premiere match against Seattle is 18.00 Swedish time.
