Swedish trotting has grief. On Saturday, Jim Frick left earthly life after a period of illness.

In September last year, he was told he had prostate cancer.

- Today he was forced to give up the fight against the disease, says his son Daniel Frick to Expressen.

He adds:

- We in the family will lack a strong personality who in the end was not afraid to make his voice heard.

Over 5,000 driver victories

With 5,002 driver victories and just over 3,000 coach victories, Jim Frick is one of the greatest trotting sports of all time.

As a native of Rättvik, he was after the apprenticeship with Olle Goop a coach in Rättvik, but most of the years he belonged to Solvalla.

The successes were many and great. For four years he became the most winning driver in Swedish trotting (1978, 1979, 1985 and 1986). According to the magazine Sulkysport, he won 51 drivers 'championships on the country's trotting tracks and in addition he won the Drivers' Championship in 1987.

Two years later, Frick took the biggest victory of his career when he won the Swedish Travderby at Jägersro with Frej Nalan.

Stopped after accident

During a race at Solvalla in February 2010, Frick was thrown out of the sulky, fell and became unconscious and never returned to competition after the serious accident.

Earlier this year, Jim Frick was elected to the Hall of Fame where the motivation was: “Lots of strong credentials and a strong personality have made Jim Frick one of the big profiles in Swedish trotting. In addition to the competition merits on the track with over 5,000 driver victories and over 3,000 coach victories. Jim has also been a factor to be reckoned with alongside the track. He was chairman of the Trotting Trainers 'National Association (TR) and he received the Trotting Trainers' National Association's honorary gold medal in 2011. He was also named Travet's honorary ambassador in 2012. "
