He arrived in Monaco to everyone's surprise replacing Albert Moreno, himself not expecting it. Former Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac gave his first press conference on Tuesday evening and displayed both his ambitions and those of his leaders.

“It happened very quickly, it was a surprise. This is the reason why I do not speak French yet. Monaco has a great tradition, it's a very great club. Even if the last seasons have not been up to the goals, the will is to find the top of the table. The choice was easy, ”he announced to the press.

The promise of a "strong team"

Unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he arrived at PSG, the former Bayern boss said he knew the French championship but that he would still "have to work on getting to know different clubs". A polite way of saying that he looks quickly at Ligue 1 but that he still has a lot of gaps to fill by the time the championship resumes.

What he does know, however, is that he should have the means to remake Monaco into a club that counts at the top of the table: “Paul [Mitchell, the new sporting director] and Oleg [Petrov, the president] m 'said they would do whatever it takes to have a strong team.
