The lawyer of the former president of the South American Football Association (Conmipol), Paraguayan Juan Juan Angel Nabot, who is serving a nine-year prison sentence in the United States for his involvement in the "FIFA Gate" scandal, announced that the latter is infected with the emerging coronavirus.

Jose Gonzalez told "730 AM" radio that his client was "barely able to speak when his wife called him. He suffers from severe pain in his throat," adding that he was struggling to breathe.

He revealed that "he has diabetes and suffers from high blood pressure and is very exhausted. He infected him (Covid-19) virus, which poses a threat to his health."

Nabot, 62, was sentenced to prison in 2017 for his role in the scandal that has rocked FIFA, since 2015, and has been convicted of extortion and fraud for receiving bribes in exchange for granting television transportation rights and marketing to major events while he was president of the South American Federation.

The news of Nabut's infection with the "Covid-19" virus comes nearly a week after a federal judge in New York decided to reject the request to release Paraguay and replace the prison with house arrest for humanitarian reasons.
