Wind gusts made conditions difficult and Tiger Woods, who is playing his first competition on the American professional tour in five months, did not impress in the comeback. It started promisingly with two birdies on the first three holes - but then there were several bogeys.

Thanks to a successful putt of over four meters on the last hole, Woods finally managed to get one last birdie and was able to finish the round with 71 strokes, one stroke under par and a shared 18th place.

"It's been a while since I played," Woods said afterwards, according to Reuters.

-I got an almost ideal start and it felt good early. But I simply did not succeed in anything today. I had birdies within reach, but I really did not succeed.

Pettersson best Swede

Woods has won the Memorial competition in Ohio five times. If he wins again, it would mean he takes his 83rd PGA Tour victory, something no one else has succeeded in doing. But the 44-year-old has not played an official competition since the Genesis Invitational in mid-February, where he finished last of those who made the cut.

Of the four Swedes competing at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, Carl Pettersson is the best after the first round, with 72 strokes he places in a shared 25th place.

Alex Norlén is in 42nd place and Henrik Norlander is 59th, with 73 and 74 strokes each, one and two strokes over par.

David Lingmerth is far behind on 82 strokes, ten over par.
