The classic West Coast race will be decided this weekend at Falkenbergs Motorbana. It will be a different West Coast race, no audience and no STCC.

But still with great attention, not least when Prince Carl Philip after a sabbatical from racing again gets behind the wheel.

- Last year I wanted more time with the family and the boys. This year it works to drive again, says the prince in a press release.

The prince began his racing career in a larger context in a Porsche in 2008. He drove four seasons before changing classes. Last year he made a guest appearance in the series and drove on Gelleråsen outside Karlskoga. Now he is supposed to run the entire series, which this year consists of six competition weekends.

- It's fun to be back. It will be exciting and fun to get out and drive. I aim as high as I can, he tells Viasat.

The prince's greatest victory

Falkenberg is the racing track where the prince has achieved his perhaps greatest success. Many remember how he won his first and so far only victory in STCC right here in 2015.

- I remember it for some strange reason, he says with a big smile.

But now it's not about the STCC, but the Porsche Carrera Cup, the series in which he started his career in earnest.

- It was fantastic fun to get the question to drive with Porsche. Hard to say no, he says.

In 2019, the prince turned 40, which means that in addition to the main class, he will also compete in the Masters Cup, the championship in the championship for drivers who are 40 years or older. But even though he is the youngest of all Masters Cup drivers, he does not want to see himself as a favorite.

- There are many in the starting field who have driven the Carrera Cup for many years and who have significantly more experience of the car than I have, he says.

Other interesting drivers

In addition to the prince, there are several other interesting drivers on the starting line in Falkenberg. Among others, Lukas Sundahl has won the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia the last two years and is now betting on a historic triple.

In addition, two well-known guest drivers, the Swedish world champion in WTCC Thed Björk and the Norwegian rally star Andreas Mikkelsen.
