2-0 at home against league three Sporting Lisbon was enough for the blue and white striped to be able to rejoice. With two rounds left, the team leads the league with an unassailable eight points ahead of reigning champions Benfica.

Moussa Marega punctured the match and secured the series victory with a goal in overtime, and great cheers broke out among players and leaders at an otherwise empty Estadio do Dragao. Out on the streets of Porto, there were more and more people celebrating the victory and thinking less about the corona restrictions that exist in the country.

The Lisbon team Benfica had earlier in the evening done what they could to keep the series alive, but their 2-0 against Vitoria Guimaraes was not enough.

With 29 league titles, Porto is thus approaching Benfica somewhat in the number of domestic titles. Benfica has 37 league victories. The two giants, together with Sporting Lisbon, have won all but two Portuguese league titles since 1936.

Porto also has a chance of a domestic double this year, the club will meet Benfica in the cup final on 1 August.
