Forward Lindblom began the North American ice hockey season with eleven goals and seven assists in 30 games before he was told in December that he had suffered from Ewing's sarcoma, a type of skeletal cancer, and did not play more during the season.

A few weeks ago, the 23-year-old ended his chemotherapy treatment.

-It feels like celebrating a birthday, Christmas Eve and all those holidays at once. It feels wonderful to be ready. I can hardly help myself to get back to a normal life again and start to feel that I am alive, said Oskar Lindblom to Philadelphia's website, according to TSN.

The other two nominees for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy are Dallas Stephen Johns and Ottawa's Bobby Ryan. Johns returned to ice hockey in January after almost two years of absence due to post-traumatic headache and Ryan has returned after alcohol problems, according to TSN.

The NHL gala, which was scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on June 18, has been postponed to March 25 next year due to the corona pandemic.
