Tottenham Hotspur did not suffer any damage in the fight for European football in the Premier League on Wednesday. The 'Spurs' won thanks to an assist from Steven Bergwijn 1-2 with a visit to Newcastle United.

Tottenham did not have it easy and was still 1-1 after an hour. Heung-Min Son made it 0-1 with a sneaky slider and Matt Ritchie made it 1-1 with a pebble shot, which was preceded by an error by Serge Aurier, who played despite his brother being shot dead in Paris on Monday.

The team of manager José Mourinho still ran into 1-3 in the last half hour by two headers from Harry Kane, who thus made his 200th and 201st goal for Tottenham. Bergwijn, who came in immediately after the 1-1, delivered the assist with a very fine cross in the 1-2.

Because of the win, Tottenham is number seven with two rounds to go, one point behind number six Wolverhampton Wanderers and four points at number four Leicester City. The top four enter the Champions League and numbers five and six the Europa League.

Wolverhampton wastes expensive points

Wolverhampton lost very expensive points at Burnley (1-1). The 'Wolves' were 0-1 fifteen minutes before the end by a volley by Raul Jimenez, but in injury time they still had to swallow the equalizer after a penalty kick from Chris Wood.

Manchester City gave the successful week an appropriate follow-up. The 'Citizens', who escaped exclusion from the European tournaments on Monday, were 2-1 too strong for AFC Bournemouth in-house.

With a glorified B-team, City was 2-0 halfway through goals by David Silva (free kick) and Gabriel Jesus (nice individual action), after which it became 2-1 just before time thanks to a hit by David Brooks (tighter) .

City has nothing to fight for in the competition. The dethroned champion is already assured of second place and can therefore fully focus on the remainder of the FA Cup later this month and the Champions League in August.
