The Spanish karate fighter of Senegalese origin Babacar Seck will denounce the Nazi and racist graffiti that have appeared on a mural that had been dedicated to him in the Oliver neighborhood of Zaragoza where he lives.

Said mural, in honor of Babacar's brilliant career, which has been bronze at the Madrid World Championships in 2018 in kumite, twelve times champion of Spain and who has achieved four European medals, was painted by Pablo Zárate at the beginning of the year .

Babacar, 21, arrived in Spain in 2010 . First his father had done it, he arrived in a boat and found a welder job, while his mother and his five brothers would come later.

In statements to EFE, the athlete has indicated that he learned of what happened through a message because he was in Oviedo at a concentration with the Spanish karate team. "When I saw him I told myself that he was regrettable and I felt bad for the person who had done it and for everything I had done too," he says from the bus that takes him back to the Aragonese capital after the concentration with the Spanish team. .

Support messages

"I am going to denounce him as soon as I get to Zaragoza and the Federation has also denounced it," he assured. The karate fighter points out that the neighborhood gets along "with everyone" so it would surprise him if the author or authors lived in it.

Babacar Seck, who lives in Zaragoza with his older brother, explained that he had sent the photo of the vandalism to his father and that he had told him that "life is like this" and that if you are an athlete things like that could happen. .

Babacar has regretted that this has happened without the whole family having been able to gather to contemplate it live since they have only seen it in a photo as they reside outside Zaragoza.

Asked if this act could have to do with the international campaign of "the lives of black people matter", he indicated that he did not know what to say but believed that it was not.

At least he was able to congratulate himself on the large number of messages of support he received on social networks: "apart from friends and other karate fighters, I have received messages of support from competitors in France or Morocco and from 'top' karate fighters internationally that will serve to give visibility to what happened ".

Regarding the people who have been able to carry out the graffiti, he pointed out that "they are people whose thoughts cannot be changed" and, therefore, he prefers to focus on working hard.
