Real Madrid needs two more victories for the 34th league title in club history. The league-leader won 2-0 against Deportivo Alavés on Friday and with three games to go, he again has four points ahead of number two FC Barcelona.

Karim Benzema was the captain of Real in the absence of the suspended Sergio Ramos and the striker did not claim the lead role for the first time this year with a goal and an assist.

After Joselu hit the crossbar on behalf of Alavés in the opening phase, Real received a penalty after ten minutes after a foul by Ximo Navarro on Ferland Mendy, as the left back's replacement for the rest of the season, with an injury eliminated Marcelo.

Instead of Ramos, who gave Real a 1-0 win in the previous two games by hitting a penalty, Benzema stood behind the ball. The Frenchman did not fail and made his eighteenth league goal. It was the tenth penalty kick of the La Liga season for the Madrid team and the fourth in the eight games since the corona break.

In the second half, there was a new referee due to an injury to Jesús Gil Manzano. Referee Héctor Rodríguez Carpallo initially rejected a goal from Marco Asensio in the 51st minute on the advice of his linesman, but the VAR saw that declarant Benzema was not offside: 2-0.

In the continuation of the game, the eighth consecutive win was not endangered for Real, which has been clear since the restart of the season. If Barcelona loses points on a visit to Real Valladolid on Saturday, Real can already become champion on Monday evening with a victory over Granada. Two victories are enough for the title anyway.
