Nairo Quintana was unhurt from an accident he suffered while training on a highway in the department of Boyacá , where he was born, and fell due to the reckless maneuver of a driver. This was reported by the Mayor's Office of Motavita, the municipality where the accident occurred, who noted on his Twitter account that the Arkea-Samsic runner decided to return to his home to be treated by his personal doctor.

The mayor's office detailed that the incident occurred in a sector known as the Salvial sidewalk (hamlet), on the road that connects Tunja, the departmental capital of Boyacá, with Motavita, where he collided with a vehicle. In photos published by the local administration, Quintana is seen sitting in a plastic chair telling the Police and Mayor Mery Mozo what happened.
