Russia's athletics federation (Rusaf) would have paid half of the fine totaling $ 10 million (about SEK 93 million) by July 1. This is a punishment for federal leaders trying to prevent the investigation of high jump star Danil Lysenko, who has missed several doping test cases and thus risks eight years of suspension.

The other day Rusaf asked for deferment with the payment, as they were told not to have the money. But according to WA, no information has been received on when the money can be paid, despite reminders and exchange of information with Rusaf. Therefore, Russian athletes, who have competed under the neutral flag in recent years, will not be allowed to compete internationally until after the issue was discussed at the WA Confederation meeting on July 29-30.

"We know that these are difficult times, but we are very disappointed that no progress has been made from Rusaf since the March decisions," WA chairman Sebastian Coe said in a press release.

“Rusaf is betraying its activists. We have done as much as we could to help them return to athletics, but to no avail. Now we have no choice but to go back to the union meeting at the end of July. "

Russian athletics has been suspended since the doping revelations in 2015, but pure Russian athletes have been able to compete under the neutral flag.
