Renault's seat for 2021 remains ownerless. And the French team is also in no hurry to announce who will be the partner of Esteban Ocon next season. What does emerge from the statements in an interview with L'Équipe by his boss, Cyril Abiteboul , is that they are looking for someone experienced with whom they can take a level jump. Hence, until now, there has been a clear list of applicants. Namely, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas. Only now it seems that the Asturian loses strength by sitting in one of those cars.

A month ago, Abiteboul spoke of Alonso as a real option. However, now it no longer seems so. Their resounding "no" to the question of whether they are behind the two-time world champion leaves little doubt. Apparently, now is not the pilot they are looking for.

It does fit Sebastian Vettel's profile better . A guy with cache, experience and, above all, no destination for next year. "I am not going into economic aspects, although our priority is to invest in the team's infrastructure. Vettel will be a free agent by 2021 and if he is highly motivated to continue running in Formula 1, it may also be in our interest," admits Abiteboul.

Valtteri Bottas also ends his contract , but, apparently, in his thoughts he is still the complement of Lewis Hamilton. Something with which both the world champion of the world and the German team itself are delighted, according to Abiteboul's words: "It has put Hamilton in difficulties, but he still has a lot to give and wants to prove it."

So Renault continues with its casting to find a partner for Esteban Ocon . "We do not want to put pressure on him, obviously we count on him for the future. Ocon has to show that he deserves this position and for the coming seasons, we have our academy, which has young talents that we trust. Of course, the team needs an experienced pilot, who is capable of carrying out the project. We want someone to commit to us, "reveals the head of Renault, who undoubtedly would have liked to continue counting on Daniel Ricciardo who, next year, will be his rival at McLaren.
