Attracting Arjen Robben has a positive effect on the sale of season tickets at FC Groningen. The Eredivionist sold more than 2,500 season tickets in the two days after the news that the 96-fold international is returning.

The total number stands at 10,950. Several courses in the Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium are sold out. "The news from Robben has given season ticket sales a huge boost," FC Groningen reports in an update on Monday.

Immediately after the club announced on Saturday that Robben has been committed, a run started on season tickets. It led to the FC Groningen website becoming overloaded.

Robben, 36, finished his brilliant career at Bayern Munich last summer, but came back to his decision to quit. FC Groningen is the club where the attacker was trained and made his professional debut at the beginning of this century.

Robben is the second summer reinforcement for FC Groningen, which previously attracted defender Wessel Dammers from Fortuna Sittard. His teammate Mark Diemers also seemed to sign with the 'Pride of the North', but he eventually chose Feyenoord.
