Police reported violent clashes and projectile throwing as celebrations continued in the city center until the wee hours of the morning, without observing the distancing measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

In an open letter published by a local newspaper, Klopp said he "did not like" the scenes that took place during these celebrations. "I am a human being and your passion is also mine, but right now the most important thing is that we don't have these kinds of public gatherings," wrote Klopp.

"I would love nothing more than to party together"

"We owe it to the most vulnerable people in our community, to the health workers who have given so much and whom we have applauded, as well as to the police and the local authorities who help us, as a club", a- he added.

The German technician urged supporters to party safely in a private setting. "If things were different, I would love nothing more than to party together, to have a parade that would be even bigger than the one that followed our Champions League victory last year so that we could all share this special moment, but it's just not possible. ”

"When the time is right, we will celebrate," he added. We will take advantage of this moment and we will paint the city in red. But for now, stay at home as much as possible. ”
