According to RIA Novosti, about 300 Spartak fans attended the opening of the monument. It is noted that the players of the current team were not present at the ceremony.

The monument was created by the sculptor Natalya Opiok. The figure of the famous football player is made in full growth, and behind the player is a pedestal resembling a stadium.

Cherenkov played for Spartak from 1978 to 1990, as well as in 1991 and 1993. As part of the Moscow club, he held a record 494 matches, in which he scored 121 goals. He became the champion of the USSR three times and once - the champion of Russia in the Spartak team.

Earlier it was reported that the owner of Spartak allocated funds for the monument to Cherenkov.
