In Davos, Switzerland, 2016, Jens Burman struck with a sixth place on the three-mile - a result that led many to hope that Burman would become the rider who could bring the Swedish men's national team back to the absolute world top.

But sixth place is still Burman's best individual performance in the World Cup. The fact that the pallets are bright with their absence is partly due to the 25-year-old being hampered by back problems for several seasons.

But in April last year, Burman was operated on disk hernias - and for the first time in a long time he has now been able to perform the strengths and explosive training that will make a difference.

- If you can exercise normally now all year, you have got a lot more basic training in the body. And it can also make you generally stronger, says Burman.

- If I drive 30 seconds faster then I can be on the podium or even win. These are very small margins and you can just get a little faster and a little more explosive so you can pick seconds easily in many different places on a track.

When do you think you are taking that step?

- I hope it will be this winter, I absolutely do. That's what I work for. It feels like there is not much that is needed to take that last step and be on the podium, there are small margins. If everything is correct and you have really taken a small snap in the development, then I think it may already come next season. That's what I'm aiming for.
