Emma Holmgren is seen as a promising goalkeeper in Swedish football. Last year she belonged to Linköping, but chose for the season to move from the top team to the newcomer Uppsala.

A decision that probably surprised many. But for Dagens Nyheter she tells the reason for the move.

Holmgren was not feeling well mentally.

- I brought it up with the coaches several times and they had an understanding and helped me personally by getting to talk to a psychologist. At the psychologist it was identified that there was no joy in my work. The legend means a lot more than I thought, Holmgren told Dagens Nyheter.

Linköping had picked up several strong names for the season and was seen as one of the favorite teams for the SM gold, but it became a fifth place.

"Unfortunately, they chose to look past it"

The goalkeeper thinks it was bad team morale. She says that they did not greet each other in the dressing room and that they did not celebrate together in the team after winning.

- There were reasons why I broke my contract. I want everyone on the team to love playing football together. To strive for the same goal every day of training to develop and take the next step. That part I talked to the coaches about, but unfortunately they chose to look past it during the season and instead deal with it after the season, says Holmgren.

The problem was with some players, and a culture in the team.

- Both and, I would say. But as many players do not break their contract or choose not to extend if it is good, Holmgren says.
