Wirelessly charged electric taxis in Norway. The capital will provide all stations with induction chargers. Taxis will therefore constantly recharge while waiting for customers. Enough to lift the main brake on their rocking towards the electric.

This morning, you are telling us about a trick to convert all taxis to electric: add a wireless charging system in each station.

This is what the city of Oslo in Norway will do. All taxi stands will be fitted with induction hobs. As soon as an electric taxi stops on it, it will recharge automatically, wirelessly. No need to go down or plug anything.

And for taxi companies, that changes everything. Do you know why almost none today use electric taxis? Because of autonomy? Charging time?

Exactly. When you drive, on average, 250 km per day, when you have the air conditioning on, you have to turn on the light on the roof, your reservation system, the bank card reader, your mobile phone… you quickly ate the little autonomy that there is on an electric car. And when you are a taxi, you especially don't want to have to stop for hours (therefore losing customers) because you have to recharge. Whereas with the induction hobs, you will fill your gauge while you wait at the station.

That means that you have to have a taxi compatible with this type of recharging…

Yes, but we can also adapt existing cars by adding an induction module to them. This is what will be done in Oslo, as part of a major project called Electri-City. You should know that from 2025, no more polluting cars can be sold in Norway. For taxis, it will start as early as 2024. So for everyone to topple over, we first had to prepare the infrastructure. In France, for the record, the end of thermal cars will not arrive before 2040 ... But we already know where to go for good ideas.
