The very first World Cup of football at the antipodes will indeed take place in 2023. Fifa designated, Thursday, June 25, Australia and New Zealand to organize together the next Women's World Cup, the format of which will change from 24 to 32 teams, the world football body said.

The dossier presented by Australia and New Zealand was preferred to that of Colombia, the last other candidacy still in the running after the recent withdrawals from Brazil and Japan. This 7th Women's World Cup will be contested in July-August 2023 in seven Australian cities and five in New Zealand with a final scheduled in Sydney.
