Alfredsson made 18 seasons in the NHL and accounted for 1,157 points (444 goals and 713 assists) in 1,246 games. For 13 years he was the team captain of the Ottawa Senators.

However, "Alfie" never won a Stanley Cup.

In 2012, Mats Sundin was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as second Swedish after Börje Salming (elected 1997). Subsequently, Peter Forsberg (2014) and Nicklas Lidström (2015) were also selected.
