Nine days after the new corona virus was classified as a pandemic, on March 20, the government announced that the sport would be awarded SEK 500 million in a support package during the crisis. Just over three months later, no new news has yet come of more state aid to unions and associations that are bleeding financially.

In an interview with TT on Monday, Sports Minister Amanda Lind (MP) also made no clear announcement of an additional million aid. Björn Eriksson warns of the consequences of a non-message before the summer.

billion Buyers

- This is a matter for the entire government and political parties. I hope you will think a lot if it is wise to go on vacation and say that there will be no news, says the Sports Association's chairman.

Eriksson understands if the government cannot promise a certain amount. But he wants to see an indicative message preferably before the end of the second quarter, ie in a week on June 30.

- Come up with a message: "Should we expect nothing in sports, or should we expect something to be done," he says.

If this is not the case, the government's message continues to lag after the summer, the consequences will become clear for the entire sports movement - both on a non-profit and professional level. RF estimates that the sports movement will lose another 1.2 billion if existing coronary restrictions continue until August.

bankruptcy

- The worst thing that can happen is that when you gather then in the autumn you see that many young people do not come because some leaders have laid off. Then the associations will say that they quadruple the fees. Which you will be able to afford in very rich municipalities and rich areas, but you will have very difficult to carry it in areas that are exposed, says Björn Eriksson and continues:

- On the elite side, it's probably more about pure bankruptcies and other things in the really big clubs, it's a different world. There are two worlds where the tears can become quite deep within the broad sport in that it is based on non-profit efforts. They are difficult to operate if you feel you are unable to.

Eriksson believes that the best thing that can happen is that the government promises a new support package before the July and August holidays. Only then can the RF base promise more money to the sport.

- Then I can send that signal, it is much more difficult to send if there is no message.
