UEFA meets as an executive committee from midday on Wednesday until Thursday to record the resumption of the 2020 edition of the Champions League and define its outlines. Suspended due to coronavirus, the Champions League should end in August with a brand new tournament relocated to Lisbon.

UEFA is organizing a summit meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. The executive congress meets from midday by videoconference to determine the details of the end of the Champions League. Completely turned upside down by the coronavirus crisis, the competition could end in an unprecedented tournament.

An eight-team tournament in August in Lisbon

There is no question of stopping the Champions League, the golden egg hens of UEFA. The preferred solution is that of a tournament between the eight teams qualified for the quarter-finals. The competition should take place without a return match from August 12 for ten days, in one and the same city: Lisbon.

PSG is already guaranteed to participate in this mini-tournament, but Lyon, which must play its 8th final return against Juventus de Turin, also hopes to be there. "I think we are going to play the return match at Juventus", reacted Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of Olympique Lyonnais at the microphone of Europe 1. "And if we could go to Lisbon to play our luck in a 'Final 8' which makes it possible to make quarter-final, semi-final, final, we would be, if we eliminate Juventus, two games from a final of the Champions League ", he added.

What about the date of the final of the Coupe de France?

UEFA also hopes to welcome spectators to Lisbon, although the decision will depend on the health context. In any case, the dates chosen Wednesday will have repercussions on the French calendar. The French Football Federation hopes to organize the final of the Coupe de France in late July. And the final of the league cup in early August.

The president of the Federation Noël Le Graët wishes to reverse the dates planned for the two national cups and start with the French cup. Depending on UEFA decisions, the Ligue 1 championship could start after the Champions League in late August.
