Lourdes Oyarbide is one of the benchmarks of Spanish cycling. A 26-year-old Movistar team runner since its foundation in 2018, last summer she took home the national championship in Lorca with an exhibition and this season she hoped to shine in the jump to the UCI World Tour. The break due to the coronavirus postponed her ambition until next year, but Oyarbide also continues training these days with that objective.
A native of the Alava town of Aspárrena, where he still resides, in one of his sessions in the area he had an ugly mishap. Many cyclists and fans showed solidarity with her and the Movistar team itself supported her and asked for respect. "Intolerant attitudes that are completely redundant in this society. Courage, Lourdes," her team showed. Oyarbide, who also has a degree in Industrial Design, has two achievements in addition to the Spanish championship: a stage in the Tour of Burgos and a podium in the Tour of Thuringia.
