The Formula One confirmed Friday that Azerbaijan, Singapore and Japan have taken the decision to cancel its Grand Prix in 2020, due to the pandemic COVID-19 , although the organization of the Championship of the World maintains plans to finish the season with between 15 and 18 races .

Through a statement, Formula One remarked that it maintains its confidence in having between 15 and 18 races until December, when it plans to close the season in Abu Dhabi, and hopes to publish the final schedule before the inaugural test, scheduled from 3 to 5 July in Austria . What is certain, however, is that this year Formula One will not visit Azerbaijan, Singapore and Japan, after the promoters' decision to cancel those three races.

"In Singapore and Azerbaijan, the long deadlines required to build the urban circuits made it impossible to organize events during this period of uncertainty. In Japan, travel restrictions also led promoters to decide not to continue the race," said Formula One.

The organization indicated, on the other hand, that it continues the talks to prepare the calendar for 2020 and also revealed that there is "interest" on the part of new venues to host a race in 2020.

"It is still a time of uncertainty and complexity across the globe and we will continue to ensure that we proceed with the 2020 season in a cautious and flexible manner. We have detailed and robust security plans in place to ensure that we will start our season in the safest possible way." , emphasized Formula One.
