The return of the Romanian Football League was postponed today, Friday, after the result of a team doctor’s test positive for the emerging Corona virus, which caused the suspension of the season for nearly three months.
"We all want football to return to the stadiums, but the health of the players is of the utmost importance," Romanian League President Justin Stefan said on Friday to the media.
The Romanian league was supposed to resume its activities from Friday evening, with a meeting between Botosani and his host Universitatia Craiova, but the tests that the players and teams underwent showed that the guest doctor was infected with the "Covid-19" virus, which put the entire team in quarantine.
According to the program, four games were scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, but the meeting was also postponed with Dinamo Bucharest and Shindia Targovesti, after it was found that a member of the Dinamo crew had been injured.
Owner Botosani Valerio Iftemi feared, "The season will never resume again."
The Romanian government approved last week the request to resume the First Division starting today, Friday, after a three-month hiatus.
There remain eight stages of the role of defining the league champion, in which 14 teams participate in the regular season.
Cluj leads the standings in the playoff round to determine the champion, four points behind Steaua Bucharest and Universitatia Craiova.
And there is the possibility that the rest of the other matches will be held this weekend if no other cases were discovered with the "Covid-19" virus, which resulted in 1380 deaths in the country out of the 21,400 declared ones.
