• Popular races - less participation, no massive outings or solid food

Suddenly, the amateur athlete ran out of goals. No popular races, no bib numbers in sight. The coronavirus also severed the routines of so many runners or cyclists, although little by little the sky is opening up on the horizon. Although at the moment, nothing will be like before, this Saturday the 13th the starting gun will sound. The first of many. It will be in Valdemorillo (Madrid) and will have an unbeatable host, Miguel Indurain.

The Reset by Santander, which is what the mountain bike race is called, should be special. And not just for being the one that inaugurates a new era. Also because it will require exceptional health measures that comply with all social distancing protocols. That is why it is a time trial, with the departure of the 200 participants - registrations sold out quickly, there was a cumulative desire to compete - staggered and individual every 30 seconds, in groups of five in the drawer, with a previously assigned and closed schedule.

Indurain, as 123rd Ambassador of Banco Santander, will host and then cover 5.5 kilometers, with an average gradient of 5% and ramps of up to 20% maximum. The Reset by Santander will mark the starting gun for the comeback of amateur sports and will strictly follow all the sanitary security measures and regulations established by the Government and the Community of Madrid: the use of a mask in the starting area, mandatory to keep the safety distance, the limited access to the departure area according to the previous reservation, in addition to respecting the walking schedule of those over 70 years (starts at 12:00).

In addition to the five-time winner of the Tour de France, other well-known faces of the sport will participate, such as the former footballer Roberto Solozábal , with whom he will share the stage in a neutralized start for five cyclists and with a one-minute interval between runners to avoid crowds. There will also be Adriana San Román, one of the great promises of Madrid cycling and three-time champion of Spain in track cycling, Carlos Hernández, nine-time champion of the Madrid Cyclocross Cup, Daniel Carreño, bronze in the European Ultramarathon championship, Miguel Díaz, runner-up in Spain of Cyclocross, or Francisco Javier Sánchez, three-time champion of Spain in MTB Master and runner-up in Europe in Master Cyclocross in the +70 category.
