Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), stated that weightlifting may be excluded from the Games because of the situation surrounding the outcome of the investigation of the Richard McLaren Commission on the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
“We reserve the right to take harsh measures. Up to the point that weightlifting will not be represented in the Games program, ”RIA Novosti quoted Bach as saying.
In early June, Richard McLaren, known for his doping case in Russian sports, presented a report on the activities of the IWF.
Earlier, Bach said he was disappointed with the latest weightlifting scandals.
