"Total and absolute support". That is the position that the Madrid City Council maintains to the option of hosting the Champions League final in the capital for the second consecutive year. An option that has been left open by the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, who has admitted that "efforts" are already taking place so that the largest European club football event will once again host the city in its final phase.

The alderman has pointed out that Madrid has the "necessary security conditions", with "the infrastructure" with two stadiums such as the Wanda Metropolitano and the Santiago Bernabéu and "with the public services" so that the final format of the Champions League, even for decide, return to have the capital as headquarters. "It would be great news for the city," said Almeida in an interview on 13TV.

Because, according to the mayor, "hosting such an important event" would also serve to "demonstrate Madrid's ability to remediate in such a short time the situation so dramatic" that the coronavirus health crisis has left in the capital. "I want to show total and absolute support for this Champions League final to be played in Madrid," he concluded.

All this while waiting for the UEFA Committee, which meets on June 17, to make a decision on the current edition of the competition that is currently suspended with four teams classified for the quarterfinals -Atlético from Madrid, Leipzig, PSG and Atalanta- and four other knockout stages in the second leg in the absence of the second leg.

One of the options that arise is for a single city to host all the remaining matches of this unfinished edition of the Champions League, once the national leagues of each country have finished. That is where Madrid would enter the stage , whose alderman has already shown himself ready to host an event whose final was held last year at the Wanda Metropolitano.

A scene in which neighboring Lisbon is also located , according to information from the German newspaper Bild , which places the Portuguese capital as the substitute for Istanbul to host the final of the tournament with the Da Luz stadium as the venue.
