The resumption of the football championship could take place with smoke bombs authorized in stadiums in France, after the Minister of Sports Roxana Maracineanu said Monday that she was in favor of new experiments. The minister spoke after a meeting with the National Support Authority.

The Minister of Sports, Roxana Maracineanu, said on Monday that she was in favor of new experiments, upon the return of competition, around smoke bombs in stadiums, causing tensions between ultras and authorities. "Experiments with pyrotechnic shows that involve supporters could see the light of day after the matches, in late July, early August," she said. The minister spoke after a meeting of the National Support Authority (INS), a dialogue group that brings together actors from the stands and the authorities.

A dedicated area with supervising staff

The deputies Marie-George Buffet (PCF) and Sacha Houlié (LREM) presented there in particular the report of the fact-finding mission which they carried out, examined at the end of May in the Parliament, of which one of the recommendations advocate "a framed use "smoke bombs, noting the failure of the repressive measures currently in place.

"(Experiments are possible) if the supporters are in favor, and the clubs too. The clubs will have to take ownership of this subject, and they will offer it to us at the time of the first matches of the resumption of the Championship", a said Roxana Maracineanu. In detail, "the experiment which was proposed to us relates to a dedicated zone with a staff capable of supervising the supporters who will crack the smoke bombs", she specified.

"The more the repression increases, the more smoke there is in the stadiums"

Last season, tests had taken place in Le Havre (L2) and Angers, where supporters had been allowed to "crack" smoke bombs in a space dedicated to the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the club. "The idea is to continue this momentum," she confirmed.

"The more the repression increases, the more smoke there is in the stadiums. It only paralyzes the progress of the dialogue on other subjects. It also has the consequence of taking the clubs hostage between the disciplinary committee of the League (LFP) and the supporters. We are trying to put an end to these perverse effects, by developing the legal experimentation with pyrotechnics ", responded Pierre Barthélémy, the lawyer of the National Association of supporters (ANS), present at the debates .
