At the beginning of March it became official that Henrik Signell would leave his assignment as the national team captain for the handball team after the season. Tomas Axnér would take over.

Today - three months later - it was time for the first day.

- It is clear that it is a very big moment. Incredibly inspiring too, Axnér tells SVT Sport.

"We are about as good"

Axnér will focus on physics. His long-term goal is for Sweden to establish itself as a top nation in handball with the help of better physics.

- If I look at the very best teams, they are ahead of me physically. It's not that we are better at playing handball than them, we are about as good. But if we lose the physical piece and can't measure ourselves there, it will be the random that determines when we win. We need to raise the demands of playing in the national team in order to eventually reach there and be a little more often near a medal place, Axnér tells SVT Sport.

Melissa Petrén, a professional in Danish Horsens, agrees.

- I think that's needed. Especially if you are going to compete with the top team and that is where Sweden wants to be. Then there is a physics needed to be able to compete with them at the top, says Petrén to SVT Sport.
