Former Barcelona star Andrés Iniesta, winner of the Spanish national team in the World Cup, revealed his depression in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Iniesta told the German newspaper "Bild am Sonntag" that the goal he scored in stoppage time against the Dutch national team in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa was the beginning of improvement.

He added that the death of his friend in 2009 was the cause of his illness, and Iniesta explained that it was very good to seek professional help and treatment.

The Spanish star confirmed that this stage has become a part of the past, adding: “A stage that made me a stronger and better person, today I feel privileged and have a wonderful family.”
